What are Rate Filings?
Insurance companies are required to file their rates with state departments of insurance for approval. These are called Rate Filings. The insurance department will assess 1) the overall impact of the requested increase, 2) If granted, will the filers increase rates significantly be above market norms, 3) whether the flier is using significantly different ratemaking technology from standard ratemaking methodology. 4) whether the insurer is experiencing financial difficulties at its present rate level.
